Another year has passed and while there have been many things to celebrate and be joyful for, there have also been some things that have made us feel down and emotional. A number of celebrities passed away in 2011, leaving family, friends and fans to all mourn in their own ways. Here, we take a look back at some of those who died in 2011.
The death of Ryan Dunn shook the world. The Jackass star was loved by many and news of his death back in June of 2011 had, not only the US but the whole world in tears. Ryan Dunn was known for his love of fast cars and the taste of a few beers and ultimately, this would be the death of him. Ryan Dunn was over twice the legal blood alcohol level and was doing around 130mph when he crashed his Porsche 911. The world will certainly be a less fun place without Ryan Dunn in it. R.I.P. Ryan Dunn.

July 2011 saw the death of singing sensation Amy Winehouse. The music world was rocked by the news that Amy Winehouse had been found dead and, as news of her death spread across the globe, the whole world mourned the loss of a truly talented individual. Amy Winehouse was always known for her addiction to alcohol and drugs and it was the booze that eventually killed Amy. Tributes for the singer come from all over the world and her voice will certainly be missed. R.I.P. Amy Winehouse.

Sir Jimmy Saville’s death came as less of a shock in October of 2011, as the legendary television star was approaching his 85th birthday. Jimmy has been a star of both radio and television throughout his life and, while his death did not come as a huge shock, he was still mourned by many. Sir Jimmy Saville was always involved in raising money for charity and is believed to have raised well over £40 million. Jimmy is one of the most fun characters to ever grace the airwaves or the television screen, he will truly be missed. R.I.P. Sir Jimmy Saville.

October also saw the death of legendary innovator Steve Jobs. The Apple creator and co-founder had a long 10 year battle with pancreatic cancer which finally got the better of him. What Steve Jobs produced and achieved over the years has changed the world forever and the loss of such a great mind and such a visionary genius had the whole world heartbroken. People like Steve Jobs do not come around very often and the loss of such a great man is such a sad story. R.I.P. Steve Jobs.

2011 also saw the death of a number of other celebrities, including Spartacus actor Andy Whitfield, who died of Lymphoma Cancer. Columbo star Peter Falk, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, passed away back in June at the age of 83. Musician Mikey Welsh was found dead in his hotel room after a drug overdose, he was 40 years old. Another person to take their own life was footballer Gary Speed, who hanged himself back in November at the age of 42. There have been many more deaths in 2011 and our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.
